Welcome to The Grand Quilt Guild

Program for May 8

Jake and Jacqui Van Meppelen Scheppink

The History of the Sewing Machine

Jake tell us that  having an eye for old and older machines started in May 1996 when they bought a Singer 222K free-arm featherweight, just to get the ruffler attachment and later found out that the 222K is a sought-after collector sewing machine. Since then, they have enjoyed the synergy of quilting and sewing machine collecting and repair.

Jacqui and Jake are now both retired yet remain active. Jacqui still teaches quilting on a part time basis from home. Jake has more time for their hobby of collecting and restoring antique, vintage and toy sewing machines now that teaching high school math, sciences and religious studies no longer demands daily attention.

We hope you can join us, in person at the Fergus Legion, or via Zoom, on 7:30 pm, May 8.
